Scienta Professor Carla Treloar
Scientia Professor Carla Treloar AM is a social scientist and works at the Centre for Social Research in Health at UNSW, Sydney. Her work brings to light the gaps, failures and harms of health and social systems and poses solutions to better meet the needs of people who experience social marginalisation. She has been a member of more than 50 advisory committees for government, health agencies and non-government organisations. She is committed to the effective translation of research into policy and practice and to ethical and respectful conduct of research in close collaboration with affected communities and people with lived and living expertise. She is co Editor in Chief of the International Journal of Drug Policy and a current recipient of a NHMRC Investigator Award (2025-2029) to build the knowledge base for effective stigma reduction interventions in health care.

Professor Loren Brener
Loren Brener is a Professor at the Centre for Social Research in Health (CSRH). Her research focuses on stigma and discrimination experienced by people living with blood-borne viruses such as HIV and viral hepatitis and the impact of this on health outcomes and quality of care. Her research is grounded in social psychology and aims to advance theoretical understanding as well as practical outcomes for marginalised and vulnerable groups. Her research engages extensively with stakeholders and community; and she specialises in both qualitative and quantitative research methods. Loren is the Deputy Director of CRSH and SPRC.
Dr. Timothy Broady
Dr Tim Broady, Senior Research Fellow at the UNSW Centre for Social Research in Health (CSRH), has spent his career addressing stigma and driving change in healthcare services. As a lead convenor of the short course Combating Stigma: Strategies for Inclusive Health Services, Tim works to share his expertise to empower others to create more inclusive practices.

Dr. Elena Cama
Dr Elena Cama is a Research Fellow at the Centre for Social Research in Health at the University of New South Wales, Sydney. She is a mixed-methods researcher with a background in criminology, social science, and public health. Her research has focused on experiences, impacts, and responses to marginalisation, discrimination, and violence. This work has included research on sexual harms experienced in a range of contexts, including those facilitated via dating and hook-up apps, in the context of using taxi and rideshare services, in the night-time economy, and in higher education settings. It has also included a focus on stigma and discrimination targeted at people affected by blood-borne viruses and sexually transmissible infections.
Dr. Theresa Caruana
Theresa Caruana is a Research Associate/Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Centre for Social Research in Health. Her current research focuses on stigma in health settings, and the experiences of people who access or work in community mental health and drug & alcohol services. She has a history of working with populations experiencing disadvantage in a variety of direct practice, education, communication, policy, research, and project coordination roles.
Brooke Nolan
Brooke Nolan is a communications consultant and journalist with a focus on public health, science, and social impact. She leads the communications and content for Tackling Stigma in Healthcare, is the Marketing and Communications Manager at the International Network on Health and Hepatitis in Substance Users, and consults as a copywriter and content strategist with universities, health organisations, and other organisations across the globe. A published journalist, she is passionate about the role communications can play in making research visible, accessible, and actionable.
