Bringing an end to diabetes stigma and discrimination: an international consensus statement on evidence and recommendations

This international consensus statement, published in The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology, brings together 51 experts from 18 countries. It shows that four out of five adults with diabetes experience stigma and one in five face discrimination at work, in education, or in health care. The paper highlights how stigma, often driven by blame, fear, or negative stereotypes, harms people’s health and opportunities. The group agreed on evidence, recommendations, and a global pledge to put an end to diabetes stigma and discrimination.
